Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients (4–6 servings)

  • 500 g ground lamb (or beef)

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 carrots, diced

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 200 ml beef or lamb stock

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt & pepper

  • For mashed potato topping:

    • 1 kg potatoes, peeled & chopped

    • 50 g butter

    • 100-150 ml milk or cream

    • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190 °C (375 °F).

  2. Boil potatoes until soft; drain, mash with butter, milk, salt & pepper; set aside.

  3. In skillet, cook onion, carrots, celery until soft. Add garlic.

  4. Add ground meat; brown; stir in tomato paste.

  5. Add stock, Worcestershire sauce; simmer until thickened; season.

  6. Transfer meat mix into a baking dish; spread mashed potato topping over.

  7. Bake ~20 minutes until topping golden.
